Hello, my name is Gail Johnston, I am a homesteader and I live in the boondocks in Hettick, Illinois, called Native Acres. I spin wool into yarn on my spinning wheels, make goat milk soap, herbal bath products, garden, make jewelry from antlers found on my property, and I am a writer.
I am a Reiki Master/Teacher, herbalist, and a nature lover. I live my life by the moon phases and the earth’s cycles. I strive to live the ways of my ancestors. I find my inspiration and solace in nature that surrounds me, and am in constant awe of its raw beauty.
I started out writing poetry, wrote a children’s book, a poetry book, and my first novel. Since then, poetry has taken precedence over the rest of my writing.
My Professional Bio:
Some of my poems have been published in John Campbell’s, Our World’s Most Beloved Poems, On Gossamer Wings, The International Library of Poetry Collection, and Whispers in the Mist, my own collection of poetry, published in 2006. My children’s book, The Shaggy Pony and The Spotted Pup, was published in 2006, and my first novel, Apple Creek Farm was published in 2016. I have my BA in Creative Writing, from Southern New Hampshire University, and looking forward to starting my Masters in the fall. My Bio is as follows:
Gail Johnston grew up in central Illinois with corn fields as neighbors. She homesteads on several acres with her boyfriend, and a host of animals. She loves everything that has to do with homesteading and living the old ways of her ancestors. She lives with nature and follows the natural cycles of the seasons. When she’s not writing about nature, she loves reading poetry, especially Mary Oliver’s poetry. She also loves spending time in nature by gardening, riding her horse, and spinning wool on her spinning wheels from her sheep.
